Communication and Stress Management

Comunicación y gestión del estrés - Oviedo 2022

ASEPROCE ESPAÑA (Spanish Association of Language Courses Abroad) invited me to give a talk about Communication and Stress Management at its XXXVI General Assembly that took place in Oviedo, Asturias, Spain.

We talked about our communication skills, we learned some concepts in the field of NLP, such as the influence of body and facial language, tone and words.

We highlighted the calibration: the importance of taking into account our interlocutor: for whom we speak; how should we get our message across?

Throughout the presentation we walked through some strategies that make our speech more assertive and empathic to ensure that all interlocutors feel part of the communication.

On the other hand, we understood how modeling can interest us: who we want to look like when communicating and why. We can discover what type of communication is most effective for us.

We dedicated a section to the topic of the elevator pitch. Why do we have to talk more than necessary?

We emphasized the relevance of beliefs in our way of communicating, even in our way of understanding, which links us to our internal dialogue: how we talk to ourselves and what is the daily percentage that we dedicate to this internal conversation. We analyzed some techniques to work on it.

We understood what stress is and how to manage it (stress management). We did some comparisons, we saw the different types of brain that control vital signs, emotions, language, etc. We showed the importance of water within our body and the influence it can have on our mind. To conclude, we worked with different mindfulness techniques and learned what the coach state is.

The feedback from the talk was really very good. They said it had been very useful and practical, and that it had made them think about their way of communicating, their daily relationship with stress and how they could control it from that moment on.

Before starting the talk, I told the audience to stand up, shake their bodies, and drink some water. They had been sitting all day long!
